And so it begins..

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

I pray that Allāh taʿālā blesses whoever is reading this with the best in this life and the next, grants you closeness to the Qur’an, and places barakah in your time and efforts.

This blog is a simple record of my attempt to memorise the Qur’an later in life, alongside work, family, and the ordinary pressures that tend to crowd out long-held intentions. For most of my life, I assumed hifdh simply wasn’t for me, something reserved for the naturally gifted, those with exceptional memories, or those who began as children. It has always felt out of reach.

At the point of starting this blog, I have memorised Surah al-Mulk, Surah al-Qalam, Surah an-Naba’, and the final thirteen surahs of the Qur’an. It is not a large portion, but it represents a beginning I delayed for far too long.

My approach is deliberately simple. I attend half-hour lessons with my ustādh three times a week. In each lesson, we usually cover one to three lines, which works out at roughly five to ten lines a week. Outside of lessons, I try to revise as consistently as I can, mainly using the Tarteel app to keep myself honest.

As for memorisation itself, there is nothing clever about the method. I repeat an āyah thirty to fifty times until it settles, then move on to the next. I then bring the two together, repeating them around twenty-five times, before adding the third, and so on. It is slow but steady.

This is not a tafsīr blog, nor a scholarly one. It is simply a sinner’s attempt to document his journey as a ṭālib al-Qur’ān, the struggles, the small milestones, the discipline required, and the days when progress feels harder than it should. Writing things down helps me remain accountable and grounded in the process.

If anything here benefits someone else walking a similar path, then that is a gift from Allāh ﷻ. Above all, I ask that you keep me in your duʿāʾ, and I ask Allāh taʿālā to accept what is sincere, forgive what is lacking, and allow us all to complete what we begin with His Book.
